Programming an Android & iOS app for cyclists in Ecuador

Riding a bike in Ecuador can be very dangerous because of the traffic. Broom allows cyclists to book an escort car that shields them from traffic by driving behind them.

Project implementation

We have developed an app for iOS and Android that cyclists in Ecuador can use to book an accompanying driver, a so-called Broomer, for their ride. In Ecuador, cyclists are often involved in traffic accidents with cars, especially when training on interurban roads.

Dangerous situations can arise, for example, when cyclists ride up a hill and become very slow in the process. The Broomer car acts as a protective shield in such situations. The Broomer is also there in the event of a mechanical problem or an accident.

The app, available for Android and iOS, has the following features:

• Geolocation: Users can see which Broomers are in their vicinity on a map and can thus book the Broomer closest to them.

• Alerts: The Broomer receives a notification when a user wants to book him.

• Further features are planned, for example multipayment and a security function against microsleep at Broomer.
